March Madness, Doubled

The first kind of March madness entering my life this week is in the form of my 8 page commentary and exegesis paper on Luke 21:1-4. As that madness winds down (it's due Friday morning at 10) I'll live in another state of madness.

NCAA Men's basketball. My bracket is all filled out an I've entered it into one pool. A pool with everything on the line. It is a pool with only two people, me and my wife. Head to head.

On the line... my ego. I made Jenny fill out a bracket. She probably couldn't tell you who her final four teams are without me looking it up for her. She has nothing invested. But if she wins, my ego will be crushed.

It is easily the most I've ever had at stake in a tournament pool, and I've been in some involving money before. Lucky for me, besides my class and paper that will force me to miss watching the games tomorrow (I'll have a ticker up on my computer) I will be out of class during the rest of the times that games are on air. Woohoo!

After football ended, you didn't know what you'd do with your Sundays. I guess for the next few Sundays, you will be able to fill them with basketball games. Who did you pick to go all the way? How many wins did you give UK? I'm not in any pools, but I'd put UK down for one win. (When do you start ref'ing soccer matches - that is another activity that could fill your Sunday afternoons. Will you ref both indoor and outdoor soccer? Last summer, you were looking for employment - is ref'ing going to be your part time job?)

I picked Ohio State to win it all on my bracker. I put KY down for just one win as I have Kansas in the final game against Ohio State.

I'll likely begin reffing indoor in the next 2 weeks or so, the schedule for that session comes out in a week and will ref throughout the summer as my job.

I want to be perfectly clear that at no point did I ever say or indicate that ego is on the line. Of course, as a man, the competative side of him will always want to win...and do so when the competition is a woman. But remember that he is the one who "made Jenny fill out a bracket." If there is competition it is against himself. I couldn't care less.

I only care about the bracket at work...winner gets free lunch at Subway!
