I love when I get questions, particularly questions that ask about my interpretation and theology based on certain parts of scripture.
At the same time, I don't want to present my opinion as "the" answer when other people may vary greatly.
So I'm posting this question from MDK for anyone to answer. I'll answer eventually, but am hoping not to be first.
"Now that I am reading deuteronomy, it struck me that God doesn't seem very merciful to Moses in not letting him enter Canaan. Any insights to this?"

Reading over the verses that talk about the reason God does not let Moses into Canaan says that it is because of the sin and disobedience of Moses that he displayed when getting water from the rock. However, this still strikes me as somewhat hard to fathom. Evreybody makes mistakes and God forgives. My only thoughts are that since Moses never asked for forgiveness and was trying to show his power, not Gods, that he was not allowed into Canaan. From a human train of though, I also figure that moving into Canaan would be a good time for a change of leadership anyways. Israel is about to change the way they live, instead of being nomadic, they will settle down. A new time in Israel's history is about to begin, so a new leadership is needed. Those are just my thoughts, and I am very curious to hear others as well.
