During this time, I realized it had been well over a year since I had purchased a cd. Even longer since I felt the need to listen to music while doing something around the house.
I'm just not one of those people who gets much from listening to music. I've looked around plenty to see its emotional influence on people's lives. It rarely moves me in that way, or any way.
I'm not a musical person. I don't think that I ever will be.
Are you? Is music important to you?

I agree with you completely. I have never been a music guy and it funny how many people look at me crazy for being like that. However I do enjoy music while working out.
I guess I didn't play enough "bluegrass" for you all growing up.
so i am assuming you don't own an ipod?
this is an interesting concept. why do people like music?
too much $? not enough time? doesn't do anything for them? too poppy?
i really like soundtracks. i love viewing and then hearing music that apparently fits the mood of the movie.
generally, i listen to music according to my mood. if i am mellow: mayer, coldplay, & album leaf
if i am wild: it is all about the fast beats.
i think for me music helps create environments for me to enter into.
i wonder what things (i.e personality, moods, style) determine if we like music or not?
Actually, I do own an Ipod.
A sweet Nano so that I could hook it up with the Nike+ running chip when I was training for the marathon last year.
It has 200 sermons and 4 Linkin Park Cds on it. That is all.
The funny thing to me on this one is that I would say music does mean something to me. There is an element of it that is able to express the soul, and I have an appreciationg for that. But, that being said, if you look at my iTunes I have more sermons than songs. If you walked into my office during the work day, you are more likely to hear me listening to a sermon than music.
What are your feelings on music in worship? I'm curious because I think it really enhances a service...or any kind of religious activity / event...
As I reflect on music and worship, I acknowledge whole-heartedly that it (music) is ONE of the most biblical mediums through which communal worship takes place.
I have been greatly affected by musical worship on occasions, but find myself normally bored. Music is a struggle for me. My heart needs a lot of work for me to have the right attitude during musical worship.
As I believe it is biblical, I don't believe it is only, and grate against the fact that most people only associate "worship" with "musical worship."
I think that their are many other biblical mediums for worship, some of which come more naturally to me, some of which don't.
I value having as many mediums for worship as possible within the body of the church, and question, sometimes, why some have become weekly norms, and others have become rare occurrences.
