Leap Year Didn't Exist

In my area of the world, most schools didn't have school today.  Our church cancelled our evening programming (giving me the night off) and many from our office left well before that.

It's almost like today didn't happen at all.  Leap year tried to show up, and we refused to consider it a real day.

Feed The Kids

Our church is hosting our annual Feed My Starving Children event this week, to pay for and pack meals for hungry kids.

This morning, I did that for two hours with the staff.  This evening, I did that for two hours with the Young Adults.

And while my hands smell like "chicken, veggies, soy, and rice" my day felt productive.

Throughout the week our goal is to pack 225,000 meals.  We should make and maybe exceed that goal tomorrow at the last shift.

Home-Made Cookies

Jenny made cookies on Saturday afternoon with our nephew who was over for the afternoon (the other nephew was taking a nap in our spare bedroom at the time).

I got to taste the results of that activity.  I won't complain if they decide that is fun and want to do it again.

By the way, we are out of cookies.

Stupid Parking

We had to go downtown today to get fingerprinted for our adoption process.  Parking at city hall was an issue, so we went to the parking ramp.

Here was the fee structure:

0-20 minutes: $2
21-40 minutes: $15
Every 20 minutes after that $2 added on the $15
Max a day: $26

Our appointment took 15 minutes.  Walking and parking took 9.  Stupid parking structure.

An Ash Wednesday First

This was the first Ash Wednesday where throughout the day, when I saw someone with ash on their forehead, I was never confused.

Most years, at least the first time I see someone, it takes a couple minutes to remember, but not today...today, when I saw someone around 12:15, I remembered right away that it was Ash Wednesday.

Bittersweet Release

Every meeting that I was supposed to have today got cancelled.  I was notified by other parties involved that the meeting was either rescheduled, put on hold for a while, or that my presence wasn't needed.

I enjoy not having my time wasted, so I was thankful not to have to sit in on meetings that had no value for me, yet at the same time, planned what I would do today around having scheduled meetings and since none of the cancelations came with advanced notice, the day was mostly wasted.

Fortunately, I did get to spend some of the time organizing and simplifying my office clutter so that when I re-arrange (coming soon for me an my office buddy) the process will be simple for me.

If my early morning meeting tomorrow is going to be cancelled, I hope i'm notified before I'm out of bed.

V-Day Comfort Foods

Sleep didn't cure my apathy.  That meant my Valentines day lunch was another comfort food (Chipotle), though leaving there I wanted more as well.

So I bought Double Stuff Golden Oreos, and heart shaped Reeses Peanut Butter Cups for myself in the office this afternoon.

That started helping.

Maybe tomorrow the comfort food train will stop and I'll return to my normal pessimistic self.

If not, my late dinner (I teach until 8:00, so usually eat on my own on Wed. nights) will be a special choice I'm sure.

Comfort Food

I got home from work today feeling very apathetic.  I don't exactly know what to do when I feel apathetic, so I decided that eating comfort food would be the best action I could take.

Only problem was, nothing was working as comfort food.

I tried corn, toast, chocolate and nachos.  None of them hit the spot.  I dreamed of crackers with crab dip, queso salsa dip, and something else I can't remember at the moment.

But I still feel apathetic.  The good thing, though, is that sleep is on the agenda, and I have found that sleep cures most things for me.

New Double Date Series

Throughout their engagement, Jenny and I watched through all of the Harry Potter movies on double dates with another couple.

Now that they are married, we had to pick a new series.

Tonight we watched the first Star Wars (1st in order made, not chronology of film story).

Though I enjoyed Harry Potter, I'll enjoy this series much more.

Decompression

Today brought lots of "tense" moments.  There were a couple of times at work, and another at home where all my brain and body wanted to do was decompress from that tension.

I was fortunate to find some ways to do that.  Table Tennis, a Bath, and a Neck-Rub sufficed as tools for me today.

Tomorrow, the hope is to not feel so tense, but if I do, I think comfort food might be the answer!

Agree on One Vote

Well, the political scene hit MN today.  At least the Republican version did.

All that ever becomes clear to me is that everybody wants something different, whether party by party, state by state, or facebook status by facebook status.

So let's all just agree on one voting thing (as those in charge have been doing so for a few weeks now).

UK has the best current basketball program in the country!

Go C-A-T-S!

My Mouth Was Shut

I thought a lot today, but kept most of those thoughts to myself.

I had many conversations, but filtered most of what I thought.  I was more blunt in some of them than usual, because my thoughts were stronger than usual, but they came out far less forceful to other people involved than they did in my head.

I often wonder where that line is.  Where my opinion and voice matter.  But there are other times, where I know that the knee-jerk reaction and expression of my opinion is far more emotional than it is practical.

I don't know if I "erred" today, but if I did, it was in keeping my mouth shut.

It Was All In The Paper

I hate the Patriots.

When Jenny and I showed up to the Superbowl Party thrown by some of the Young Adults, we drew slips of paper.  Whoever you drew was your hope to win the MVP to gain a door prize.

Jenny drew Mario Manningham (from the Giants), while I drew one of the two prized names, Eli Manning.

It was really all decided with the slips of paper.  I'm a winner, and since I hadn't participated in any of the other games, Manning winning MVP was my only way to win.

Dry Lips

As Jenny was readying herself for bed tonight, she had dry lips and wanted some chapstick for them.  She asked if I was going to the bathroom soon, but I told her I was going to be reading a chapter from a book first.

She said she would be awake when I was finished because "I read fast."

So I pointed out that she had fallen asleep before I finished reading a chapter the night before.

I don't know if she was joking or not, but the next words were "then read it out loud to me."

So I did.  Now my lips are dry.

Unfortunately, we can't make this a contest of stubbornness though, because I am the only one that needs to pee.
