As Jenny and I were planning what our evening was going to look like, one of our options was a movie night.
When Jenny discovered (on the cruise) that I had seen Dirty Dancing, but had never seen Footloose or Flashdance, she decided that at some point we would need to have an 80's movie night to watch them.
We thought about it for a little bit, and we even have some giftcards to Blockbuster and Hollywood Video.
After discussion of how we would co-ordinate both getting dinner and the movies (if we chose that option) Jenny said "I don't feel like dealing with the movie people."
I used to be one of those people. Jason and I both have proud memories of working at a video store. And Jenny, my wife, my friend, my lover, my only doesn't want to deal with "those people!"
I'm sarcastically offended.
Really, I just didn't know what to type.
We didn't even end up having the movie night, sometime though, I'll have more avenues to discover the six degrees of Kevin Bacon, just not tonight.

How Do You Prefer Your Smores?
After dinner tonight we built (meaning dad) built a fire and we (meaning mom, dad, Jenny and I) made smores.
I discovered that there are a variety of different ways to make smores.
I go the quick route, preferring to set my marshmellow on fire immediately, blow out the fire, stick it on the chocolate and eat.
Jenny is patient "toasting the outside and melting the insides through" while my mom doesn't like marshmellows to be warmed, so she eats her smores the same as if there was no fire.
Dad just seems to need to roast 4 marshmellows to make a smore as he has as much fun eating the marshmellows off of his cooker as he does eating the smore.

Between the Clouds
In the last two weeks I had lost something. Tonight I went looking for it and found it between the clouds.
A golf lesson on the cruise ship changed some things about my golf swing. When I got home, I began practicing those new things at the driving range to little avail.
The next day, I went golfing with a golf pro from seminary and he acknowledged that the lesson had some good value, but also adjusted some things awkwardly and too quickly to be of benefit.
Throughout that day I became very spotty at hitting a good shot. Even the driving range afterwards left me wondering where my golf swing had gone.
Between the thunderstorms and rain clouds tonight I found an hour to go to the driving range. In that hour, I found my missing golf swing. It took some things from the lesson on the cruise, but returned much of what I had been doing before.
I was happy to find it.

Things I Think
Pop Tarts have a new flavor called "Vanilla Milkshake."
Are you supposed toast them? Should milkshakes be warm?
The other thought was when I heard that someone was employed at a "think tank."
I'm currently too lazy to do the research, can some one tell me what a "think tank" does and what kind of people they need to employ?

Cruise Story 2 - Dinner Rules
3 or 4 days into the cruise, Jason made a rule for me at dinner. "How about some night you order something that isn't a big slab of beef?"
I agreed, and gave him a rule to order only things that were on the menu for a night.
The next night, I ordered pork chops and completed my end of the dinner rule game.
Jason never did. Despite nights where he might order two main courses, he still always felt the need to ask for something that wasn't on the menu.
I won the dinner rules game, whether he knew it was a game or not.

Spontanious Explosion
Last Sunday night, 6 of us were enjoying our dinner meal onboard the Carnival Valor cruise ship (water floater for those of you who played Catch Phrase with us).
I was enjoying my steak and in the process of cutting my next bite when I heard a strange noise. I didn't instinctively think what it could be, but it sounded like something had exploded.
Glancing to my right, I noticed that where my glass of Cherry Coke used to be, there was now just a pile of ice and coke. Or so I thought. In actuality there was a pile of ice, coke, and the glass that used to be containing said drink.
Without being touched, simply sitting on the table, my Cherry Coke glass spontaneously combusted. Shards were later found in my mothers next bite (she was sitting to my left) and inside Jenny's top (sitting to my right).
It was hard to get people to sit next to me the next night at dinner, but I could also threaten people with my death stare at other dinner occasions.

Unreachable
Starting tomorrow I will be unreachable.
On vacation for 8 days, only 5 people will be able to reach me, and they will be on vacation with me.
It is a glorious occasion.
I will not be updating this blog for a week as I'll be on the ocean in the carribean somewhere.
I'll enjoy it for you.

Television Weather
It hasn't been good weather this week to get outside, but at least tomorrow I can watch other people golf as the U.S. Open starts.
Looking forward to seeing how Tiger does his first couple of days back, especially since, come the weekend, I'll be too busy on vacation to watch golf.
Yay Carribean.

Planning Next Week
I'm rarely one to plan thing out far in advance, but Jenny and I did go ahead and schedule a couple of events for next week while we are on vacation.
One of those events will be a joint parasailing adventure:
While the other will involve kayaking in the Carribean in a see through kayak:

We are both looking forward to both activities, as well as the food and relaxation that will happen on the cruise ship.

It Is The Parent's Fault
On Saturday we went our nephew's 1 year old b-day party.
He got his own cake. Instead of destroying it, he sat eating it patiently with a spoon. Those looking to take pictures (my wife and Luke's mother) did not appreciate this as they wanted a two fisted baby and chocolate mess.
They even began encouraging it.
15 years later they would have shown him the picture and made fun of him for eating it so recklessly, but they were encouraging it.
3 days from now they would discourage this behavior and hope he would eat patiently with a spoon, but they were encouraging it.
Don't worry Luke, I was there, and I got your back. It wasn't your fault, your family was encouraging it.

Funny Film Moments
Jenny and I relaxed watching a flick we hadn't seen yet that we picked up from the redbox across the street.
Juno was the choice.
Funniest moment from me was the stepmother saying:
“Someone’s going to get a special blessing from Jesus in this garbage dump of a situation”
Though I think Jenny's was during the previews as I dropped some popcorn and began looking for it. I couldn't find it on my lap, so I stood up. It wasn't on my shoulder, the couch where I was sitting, or even in my hood. I don't know why I checked my hood next, but I did. I eventually found it in the pocket of my sweatshirt.
From her reactions, that might have been what Jenny found most humorous.
Now that it just turned 12:12 a.m. Jenny reminds me that as of today (June 7) we have been dating for 5 years. It's our official dating timeframe anniversary today.

Blame it on the Weather
The Severe Weather Warnings did weird things to my golf game today.
I got out for 9 holes with a friend in the cloudy skies.
It isn't good when your first two holes read 8 and 7 on the scorecard. Fortunately, the third was a 2.
Oddly enough, one of my best swings of the day came when the horns went off warning us of lightning in the area.
We only got 9 of the hoped 18 in before the weather stopped us, but there are worse ways to spend an afternoon, so I guess I can't complain a whole lot.
I even finished on a good note (par).

Internet, the Introvert's Friend
I am an introvert.
I would usually rather be alone than with people.
Don't get me wrong, I enjoy people, and am very socially comfortable, but I am an introvert.
This comes out when I need to make phone calls, or something needs to be asked of an employee or returned to a store. I try to avoid these conversations at all costs.
Today, Jenny asked if I would call our Auto Insurance Provider about replacing the windshield on her car.
I got the appointment set up on the internet. They called to confirm saying: "Would you like the appointment at your house or work? and... Would you like it between 8:00 and 12:00 or 12:00 and 5:00?"
To get the entire thing scheduled, taken care of by insurance, and without having to set a morning alarm, with that brief of a phone call was an introverts dream.
Thank you internet.

Things Forgotten
I forgot how satisfying it can be to put the piece into a puzzle that you have been looking for, for 10 minutes.
I also forgot how frustrating it can be to still not have found the last edge piece.
Can you guess what Jenny and I did for 3 hours tonight while watching T.V.?

Break Has Started Well
Friday night Jenny and I had a date night. It took us to the drive-in movie theater where we saw both Indiana Jones and Prince Caspian.
Both movies about how I expected them, so it was a good evening. Saturday, I got to golf. Sunday, soccer.
It has been a good weekend.
Nerdly enough, I'm as excited for some of the books that have been sitting on my shelves to read that textbooks had overtaken.
