Help Wanted (a guest blogger edition)

That's right...while the men are out to play, the wife takes over. Ok, he's just playing Risk with a group of guys and left me home to play with Photoshop. Which brings me to our topic.

I need some help. I have been staring at my kitchen wall, baren of design and creativity. I have always wanted to decorate my house with some of my own photography, and after playing with a few shots in Photoshop for far too long I have some ideas. The problem is that yet again I am struggling to make some decisions. I want to hang three pictures on the kitchen wall, and I want them to each be a different color. The next step is not so clear: 1. Do I hang 3 different photos using 3 colors? Or 2. Do I hang 3 of the same photo using 3 colors?

So here's where you all come in. The polls are opening again and it is time for another vote. Below are nine pictures total; three variations of three different photos. Pick your favorite combination and vote by commenting to this post. You may only choose 3 pictures total!

Blue Lanterns, Yellow Bucket, Red Pot.
I love the blue lanterns the best. :)
Really nice photos. I didn't know you had this talent. I so want to get a niiiiice camera and take classes.
What kind of camera do you have?
(Glad to see you as a guest blogger...)

mrs b,
I'm still old school. I have a Nikon F50 (35mm), but I have a nice scanner that enables me to work digitally. Someday I hope to at least have a Nikon D40+ but that could be a while. For now, I can get the best pictures the old school way.

I like the garden pots best, in all three colors. Since your kitchen walls are blue, I think you need to pick up some other colors in your pictures. Also, I don't know what you have in mind for framing but next time you are here, I have frames that you can look at.

I'm least partial to the lantern photos. Both the buckets and flower pots are nice, but I'm leaning just slightly more toward the flower pots. I'm not a design expert by any means, but it seems you'll get the most continuity in your arrangement by sticking with the same photo in different colors.

Not always being able to follow directions, I'd like to see a variation not shown. I like the way the red/yellow (called red) combinations look on the lanterns and pot, I'd like to see the bucket in the red/yellow combination also, and then have three different subjects with the red/yellow color scheme. Frame color then becomes important, as well as any matting.

msk,
I actually do have a red version of the bucket, but it wasn't one of my favorites. I have been trying to incorporate yellow throughout the house in new ways. The kitchen also already has green which I wanted to continue. I will have to think about all red. With the cupboard being white and the walls blue, I don't want to have a themed patriotic room (nothing against being patriotic, it's just not the feel I want to go for).

Thanks for your comments. It gives me something else to think about.

I like the last three...the planters or whatever. I really like the blue lanterns, but not the other two as much as the pots. The contrast isn't as stand outish as the blue. The pots have consistent contrast and nice balanced color. Those are my pick...though I would say put a black and white of the lanterns somewhere in the house.

What version of photoshop do you have...and how do I get it? :) I need to spend some cash on a camera...

I have Photoshop 7.0. I actually also have Elements 2.0, but don't use it since I also have 7.0

The B&W's off all these photos are great as well. But I needed color. Plus playing with color was fun.

Nice pics! I say do the in the 3 colors. But I don't remember the colors in your kitchen...

I like the 3 Garden pots the best - especially the vibrant green one. The green color stands out brighter than the other 2 colors for some reason. The pot reminded me of cupcakes, which is along the theme of a kitchen. I would never have guessed them to be garden pots! In the bucket pictures, I found the lights (reminds me of car headlights) to the right of the bucket to be a distraction, but love the designs in the bucket. Can you 'photoshop' out the lights - or do you find the lights to add to the picture? Good luck deciding what you'll hang in your kitchen!

Is the voting helping? Or hindering?
I vote for the buckets, 3 colors. I like them the best, but I wondered if you could play with it and flip 1 (right-alighn) and center another so they are all slightly different, but totally match.
Good luck.
